TEE TIME IN VIRGINIA

(2021 - Spring/Summer Issue)

Writer: DREAMSCAPES STAFF

Whoever said “happiness is a long walk with a putter” was probably thinking about playing golf in Virginia. With 220 public courses, no matter where you explore across the “Old Dominion,” you’ll find great golfing on both modern and traditional courses. Virginia golf courses offer some of the most scenic views in the world, thanks to its sloping mountain ranges, lush valleys, and gently rolling hills. The state also features some of America’s oldest courses.

Best of all, there are plenty of family-friendly golf options. Most courses offer special junior rates and there are even golf camps for kids. Start planning your tee time and spark your imagination with these courses:

Play Historic Golf

At the Omni Homestead Resort, Hot Springs, several U.S. presidents have played on the Old Course, the nation’s oldest first tee in continuous use. Set against the dazzling backdrop of the Allegheny Mountains, and designed by famed course architect William S. Flynn, the championship course has been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” by Golf Digest.

Opened in 1963, the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Colonial Williamsburg now offers the only father-and-son, side-by-side designed courses in the world with its Gold and Green Courses. Surrounded by well-matured woodlands, you can spend the day playing through its 45 walkable holes over three courses, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Rees Jones.

Tee off on Pro Courses

The Signature Courses at Bay Creek Resort on Virginia’s Eastern Shore were voted 12th in the USA by readers of Golf World magazine. Designed by two of the all-time golfing greats, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, the courses give players gorgeous views over the Chesapeake Bay. The Palmer-designed course has plenty of sand dunes and beach bunkers with four holes by the shores of the bay.

At Kingsmill Resort, golfers of all levels can enjoy the pristine greens and natural beauty of the River Course, set above the banks of the James River. Sharpen your skills at the in-house Golf Academy, voted one of the Top 25 Golf Schools in America, or book your kids for a junior golf camp, because it’s never too early to learn to love the game!
