LET LOOSE IN MIAMI

(2013 - Winter/Spring Issue)

Writer: ELIZABETH CLARKE

It’s the best spot in Florida to hit the tropics without ever leaving the mainland.

Hot clubs, hip shops, eager-to-please hoteliers and beautiful people make this sultry destination a hit for everyone.

Relax under a beach umbrella with a fruity drink. Enjoy steaming Cuban coffee to get energized for your night at the South Beach clubs. Swim with dolphins, look an alligator in its beady eyes on an airboat ride through the Everglades, watch cruise ships head out to sea.

Drink it all in

Admire Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture in South Beach, or stay in a hotel there. Take in a gamut of professional sports, from tennis to NASCAR. Cheer the Miami Marlins onto the baseball field in the team’s new stadium. Catch the fever as Miami Heat fans sizzle with excitement every time their team scores points. Or get involved yourself: waterski, windsurf, dive, kitesurf, golf or play tennis, among others.

This international city also offers dozens of unique experiences, whether you’re celebrity watching on the beaches, furniture shopping in the Design District, sampling new culinary experiences available throughout the area or checking out museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art. Enjoy a meal alfresco at one of many outdoor bistros along Ocean Drive. See and be seen at a fine-dining establishment in Miami Beach or South Beach.

At first glance, the shopping options in this metropolitan area might boggle your mind, however you can rest assured that every shopping venue is a good one. Feeling generous? Visit the outdoor CocoWalk in Coconut Grove or the Bal Harbour Shops in North Miami. Prefer browsing? Head to the Lincoln Road Shopping District, a pedestrian mall filled with shops, galleries, restaurants and more. For a little of everything, check out the Miami International Merchandise Mart, a wholesale market featuring 300 showrooms and 6,000 product lines.

When choosing a hotel, choices rangefrom cosy boutiques to large resorts, chain hotels and Old Florida beachfront classics such as the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, where a glamorous history and modern luxury blend perfectly.
