Zoo Miami is one of the first free-range zoos in the country—the exhibits are entirely cageless. The Miami Seaquarium is located on the causeway between downtown Miami and Key Biscayne. And the Miami Children’s Museum, with its motto of “Play, Learn, Imagine, Create,” allows children to explore everything from a supermarket to a television studio, picking up valuable lessons along the way.

Make time for a little history at the 20-hectare Vizcaya estate, a European-style mansion offering a look at life in turn-of-the-century south Florida. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, located on the south end of Key Biscayne, is home to the famous Cape Florida Lighthouse built in 1825.

To see and be seen, the most popular events in Miami are Art Basel in December, an international art show featuring modern works from more than 2,000 artists, and the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival in February.
