INCREDIBLE JOURNEYS - KEEPING IT PERSONAL

(2013 - Fall/Winter Issue)

Writer: EMMA SURRIDGE

Transat Discoveries, Canada’s leader in holiday travel, wants to change your view of the world with one of the many incredible journeys outlined in its new brochure.

"Clients who’ve been to Cuba or Mexico with us, and perhaps taken a European cruise, are ready for a more exotic adventure,” says sales director Dan Prior.

In addition to its already popular tours to Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, the 2013–2014 brochure offers new trips to Borneo, India, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Croatia and Greece, along with unique Mini Discoveries and Seaside Discoveries before or after your tour to make the trip even more exciting.

“Our goal is to give travellers the opportunity to customize their own itinerary,” says Prior.

“With airfare from Toronto included in the price on regular airlines, such as LAN, Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa, along with most meals, land transportation and stays in four-star hotels, every trip becomes like an all-inclusive vacation,” he notes.

Groups are small, guides are local and escorted departures ensure that all travellers have the undivided attention of a Transat specialist. In fact, the entire team is committed to making travel comfortable and giving guests a truly authentic experience in each country.

Here are some highlights from the Transat Discoveries 2013–14 brochure.

Splendours of Kenya

This new 11-day guided tour is guaranteed to take your breath away and provide memories and photos of a lifetime. Drive through rich farmland and coffee plantations to reach the first of several luxurious tent camps at the foot of Mount Kenya. The tour includes a total of nine safaris in Kenya’s most beautiful parks, including a full day in Maasai Mara National Reserve, home to stately giraffes, vast herds of elephants, rhino and thundering herds of zebra. From $5,384/person including tax and air from Toronto

Treasures of Croatia

Be the first among your friends to visit this new member of the European Union, rich in history and natural beauty. The 12-day tour along the coast of Croatia is a must for those who love exploring ancient ruins. Must-see highlights include two days in Dubrovnik and tours of the Elaphiti Islands, UNESCO sites Split and Trogir, the waterfalls of Krka National Park and the medieval village of Sibenik. You’ll also get a chance to explore Sarajevo in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina. From $3,479/person including tax and air from Toronto

Splendours of Greece

Travel in a small group, maximum 16, and stay in charming local hotels on this 16-day journey through Greece. Spend eight days on the continent and another eight at leisure exploring the islands of Syros and Naxos. Highlights include the Acropolis in Athens, the sanctuary of Delphi and the perched monasteries of Meteora. For local flavour, visit a traditional tavern, a winery and partake in a cooking class. If desired, ask your travel agent how to custom-design your own Greek adventure. From $4,440/person including tax and air from Toronto

India, Wonders of Rajasthan

Enter the country of 1,001 nights to explore the riches of Rajasthan in Northern India—cities, treasures, palaces, fortresses and traditional meals. From desert dunes to the valley of the Ganges River, this fast-paced 16-day voyage is filled with authentic experiences in bazaars, markets and villages. Stay in heritage hotels and overnight at an oasis camp in the Thar Desert. Visits to four UNESCO World Heritage sites include the world-renowned Taj Mahal in Agra. From $3,914/person including tax and air from Toronto

Mini Discoveries

These new short excursions, lasting one to five days, can be used to create your own custom journey or added on before or after a guided tour. Look for excursions in Goa, Myanmar, Borneo, Cambodia, Thailand, the Galapagos Islands, Namibia and many more destinations. In Peru, for example, visit the Amazon rainforest or fly over the world-famous Nazca lines. You can even combine tours to create a personalized itinerary to places such as Victoria Falls in Tanzania. In fact, you can create your own trip!

Seaside Discoveries

Book a side trip to the beach in countries as diverse as Vietnam, Kenya, Tunisia and Turkey and discover the meaning of a tropical paradise. In Thailand, for example, you can choose from two resorts in Phuket, with rooms starting at $40 a night, or head to Koh Samui, with its stunning beaches and lively night life.

Travel Planner

Itineraries departing from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax and St. John’s are also available. In addition to the products showcased in its new brochure, Transat Discoveries also provides customized trips for groups of 10 to 80 people. Most itineraries are also available as private tours on your preferred dates.

With gateways across Canada, it’s easy to plan a Transat Discoveries trip to an exotic locale. To make your trip more affordable, take advantage of the many promotions designed to save you money.
