GET AWAY TO THE PALM BEACHES AND GET CLOSER TO THE ARTS

(2023 - Winter Issue)

Writer: REBECCA FIELD JAGER

Travellers and snowbirds planning to escape the Canadian winter don’t have to worry about leaving behind their beloved culture and arts scene while in The Palm Beaches.

Bustling with sophisticated, world-class museums, galleries, theatres, performing arts centres and more, The Palm Beaches are not only America’s First Resort Destination but also Florida’s Cultural Capital.  Distinct cultural destinations include West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Tequesta, Jupiter, Juno Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Lake Worth Beach, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Wellington, The Glades and Lake Okeechobee.

And, when you’re not nestled wide-eyed in your theatre seat, or marvelling at a masterpiece, The Palm Beaches’ signature sunshine and balmy Atlantic breezes make it ideal for outdoor events as well. The region is home to several festivals and unique attractions such as the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, one of 10 designated Outstanding Natural Areas in the United States.

Of course, The Palm Beaches also boasts 75 kilometres of clean, sandy beaches to relax on or explore. Alas, we’re still counting the palm trees.

Five Fabulous Cultural Experiences staged this season:

NORTON MUSEUM OF ART IN WEST PALM BEACH

Home to one of the most distinguished collections of art in the entire state, and with American, European, Chinese, contemporary and photography holdings, upcoming special exhibitions include Presence: The Photography Collection of Judy Glickman Lauder (Dec. 2, 2023 –March 10, 2024).

PALM BEACH DRAMAWORKS IN WEST PALM BEACH

Riding high on its reputation for presenting engaging, challenging and inspiring performances in an intimate setting, the company’s 24th season includes the world premiere of The Messenger (Dec. 8–24, 2023).

PALM BEACH OPERA IN WEST PALM BEACH

The oldest performing arts organization in The Palm Beaches continues its 60-plus-year tradition of providing South Florida with the spellbinding power of opera with a lineup that includes Tosca (Jan. 26–Jan. 28, 2024) and The Tales of Hoffman (Mar. 1–3, 2024).

BOCA RATON MUSEUM OF ART IN BOCA RATON

Internationally recognized for its diverse selection of special exhibitions and superb collection of modern masters of contemporary art, photography, glass and sculpture, upcoming exhibits include Smoke and Mirrors: Magical Thinking in Contemporary Art (Nov. 15, 2023– Apr. 14, 2024). This exhibition is inspired by the amazing life of Florida resident and legendary magician, the late Amazing Randi.

MALTZ JUPITER THEATRE IN JUPITER

Committed to production, performance, and education through its collaboration with local and national artists, one of Florida’s largest regional theatres hosts many special performances, including this winter’s Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (Jan. 9–28, 2024).
