A MARTIN COUNTY TREASURE TROVE

(2016 - Winter Issue)

Writer: .

Sporting barrier islands where you can watch a perfect Atlantic sunrise, more than 75 different parks, gems like Hobe Sound that combine a laid-back vibe with history and natural beauty, Martin County in Florida’s easterly reaches is truly a trove of treasures.

Here, where fully 27 per cent of the area is either park or conservation land, you can go paddling, take a swamp tour or make like Hemingway in the “Sailfish Capital of the World.” Visit historic downtown Stuart, a settlement that Coastal Living calls one of the “Happiest Seaside Towns” in the USA.

Toast the end of the day with margaritas at a beachside bar boasting live music and fish tacos. Or get up early and toast sunrise instead, lounging in the soothing waters of Bathtub Reef Beach or strolling the amber swathes of sand along Jensen Beach.

Maybe check out Blowing Rocks Preserve, a place Condé Nast considers one of Florida’s Top Ten Beaches.

Fill the rest of your day with activities from eco-adventures (the area boasts the most biodiverse lagoon ecosystem in the northern hemisphere) to history lessons.

Or not—for this is a place to unwind and reconnect.

Martin County is a treasure trove of attractions and allures.

But let’s keep it our little secret.
