Lake Huron’s North Channel has long been a boaters’ mecca—and it just got better with Rachelle McConnell’s redo of the 1920s-era Sportsman’s Inn Resort and Marina located in Killarney, Ontario.
Since 2008, owner Rachelle McConnell has been perfecting her vision for this “fine boutique hotel” that serves discerning landlubbers and boaters in style. “Every year, I add or refurbish elements that increase the appeal to vacationers who enjoy a secluded place yet still want world-class dining, entertainment and amenities.”
Unique Services
Boaters in particular relish the food and entertainment, and have the option of getting pub food delivered to their boats. They can also watch movies from their decks at the local drive-in theatre, tuning in to the sound on their boat radios. When they want to stretch their legs, they can use the Inn’s private hiking trail on George Island. And soon they’ll be able to relax in the new spa.
A boardwalk on the water’s edge allows guests to stroll along the docks and admire the 18- to 30-metre craft from Canada and the United States. When they want to socialize, they can meet and greet at the pub and outdoor patio overlooking the water. The fine dining experience features cuisine by Canadian executive chef Jeffrey Wilfong, while the 2,000-bottle wine cellar boasts local wines not available elsewhere.
